ELEPHANT ROCK
A new comedy by Kate Bramley with songs and music by Jez Lowe
From the great age of the steamers and through the heyday of the British seaside resorts the grand dance hall has stood proudly on the pier front attended by the greatest of all attractions, The Mechanical Elephant.
But now the holidaymakers have left for good, like the old Elephant Rock that gave the headland its name. And with the tides are gnawing away at the coast all around, short of a miracle or two it’ll be curtains for certain for the old place but that doesn’t stop Nellie’s girls putting up a good fight.
Come and join us for a good chuckle and a song or two as we trace the twists and turns of the tall tales of generations of carnival women who kept the Elephant Rock dance hall doors open through hell and high water….

More information:
Jez Lowe has long been one of the UK’s busiest folk performers, playing for audiences the world over, either solo, (with guitar, cittern and harmonica accompaniment), or with his band The Bad Pennies. His Men At Words tour of North America saw Jez joining forces with James Keelaghan and Archie Fisher for much-acclaimed concerts across Canada and the USA. And as part of The Pitmen Poets (with Bob Fox, Benny Graham and Billy Mitchell), Jez has helped to rekindle the fire in the tradition of mining songs and culture of his native region in a series of sell out theatre performances around the UK.
Jez Lowe’s contributions to the on-going BBC Radio series The Radio Ballads has cemented his reputation, with both a Sony Radio Award and Aria Award among the many accolades coming its way. The project culminated in a live BBC Radio 2 broadcast in November 2018- to commemorate The Great War Centenary- that featured Jez and a host of special guests alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and narrator Michael Morpurgo.

THE MILE ROSES: GREAT ATLANTIC EXPRESS - MUSIC TOUR
Contemporary British Folk with a nod to Nashville.
Once again we ask audiences to join us for a night of upbeat songs, stories and music, and a free “wee dram” as well!
Born out of a musical interest in both British folk and the transatlantic connections to new country and Americana, this trio are now fast gaining a reputation across the UK folk scene. Their original songs and close three part harmonies are accompanied by guitars, fretless bass, cittern, mandolin and fiddles.
This collection of songs and stories trace the long voyages from England and Ireland to The Land of The Brave and Free from the heyday of the Great Atlantic Express liners to the present day. Emigrating families took the music and malts of their homeland to the melting pot of the new world. We celebrate this mix of culture and change through a century of crossing the great Atlantic.
Kate Bramley, Simon Haworth & Kari Macleod are three singer songwriters with eclectic and diverse roots yet somehow they seamlessly come together to create an utterly original and joyful sound. From haunting ballads to swinging country, celtic roots to driving folk choruses, this band are guaranteed to show audiences a good night out.
